In the last couple months I've added a few new toys to the workshop.

Finally I have the full Adobe Creative Suite (CS2). A few programs that I'd like to learn (but never will find time to) are included in the package: In Design and Adobe Go Live. Of course the staples in the box are Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat.

My new 9x12 Wacom Intous 3 makes my paintings a little more portable. Both my Wacom Intous I tablets (4x5 & 12x12) are serial port interfaces, so I'd been passively watching Craigslist for a nice USB tablet. The ease of moving the tablet around became a higher priority when I put a home theater PC on the 50" Plasma in our living room. The idea of painting on the road with the laptop has always nagged me, so this is a happy day.

Hopefully these new additions to my studio will keep me on task to create more...

The art submissions have been far between this year primarily because of the scale of my current project. This week I decided to throw together a quick and dirty animation just to show I still have a pulse.

Stay tuned, that was the warmup I needed to get in the groove for the bigger project. It's 80% done atm.

WoW

It does kill artistic productivity to play another MMORPG, but a few weeks ago I entered the World of Warcraft anyway. I only intend to play a couple months, as landscaping my new house will suck the life out of my summer.

So far City of Heroes still seems like a better MMO but it's fun playing with my brother in Virginia a couple times a week.

PorkulusBill is currently a Lvl 25 Warrior with mad skills mining, blacksmithing, fishing and cooking. I wish I could fish like that in my own world ;)

For the Hoard!

*********** 27Feb2009 Update ****************
I had to yell at Carl Levin for spending $3 on saving a piece of Tiger Stadium this week. One of 9,000 earmarks in the $400 billion spending bill this week. Today's letter to my three reps:

"Stop with the Crazy Money Already!

I'm so disappointed in our leadership so far in 2009. Every week we see new half-trillion dollar spending bills proposed. That is reckless enough, but looking at the irresponsible crap proposed in these packages is too much for me to keep quiet. Thousands of earmarks such as $3 million to save a piece of Tiger Stadium!? Give me a break! And so much money is being wasted on reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. This is no time for a country to destroy our economic foundation on the unproven theory of global (cooling/warming/climate) change. Even if I believed the theory, Wind and Solar power are far too inefficient to force our citizens to buy right now.

Please stop bleeding the money out of our economy. It was hurting before the new administration started this crazy spending, but now your spending faster than even you can keep track of. STOP IT ALREADY!"

*********** 13Feb2009 Update ****************
This Spending Bill is still being tossed around by the Fools on the Hill. So I sent all my rep's another 2-cents. Thanks Dustin for turning me on to this easy link capwiz.com/americansforprosper… for contacting them all with one letter - priceless!

"CAREFULLY read all 1100 pages of the Spending Bill

Or vote NO!

Words cannot describe how disappointed I am with all of you. Willingness to sign me up to pay $800billion for 1100 pages of legislation none of us have completely read is unconscionable.
I'm pleading with you all to allow the American people to see the bureaucracy this will create before you jam it down our throats. New government programs do not equal economic recovery.

Remember how long you debated the $25billion the auto companies got? Why doesn't this deserve more scrutiny?"

You must have heard that change is coming. Obviously few voters actually heard the campaign promises beyond "Hope" or "Change", but if the $940 Billion Spending Bill passes today most of His wishlist will be realized. This week my boss asked me to print a truncated list of 200+ programs to be funded by this plan and my outrage multiplied.

Its strongly advised that everyone who feels strongly about the Spending Bill contact your Senator immediately. I've contacted both my senators and my congressman. Here is the letter I just sent to my Senator:

Dear Senator,

Where is the “transparency” our new leader promised? $900 Billion and growing by the minute with so little of it even directed toward creating jobs or helping taxpayers. Don’t you dare barrow thousands of dollars per US citizen without explaining to us exactly where EVERY penny is being spent! If the American people saw each line-item they would be outraged that our grandchildren’s future would be mortgaged to pay for STD treatments, Federal Hybrid Cars, off shore abortions, billions to ACORN, bailouts for Hollywood, 9 billion toward broadband internet and untold billions to the anti-carbon energy lobby… the list of pork fat is astounding! Yet every mention in the news simply describes this as ‘economic stimulus’ without a passing mention of how the money gets spent.

It’s sick that a bill originating around infrastructure improvements would yield merely 5% flagged to it. Please say NO to this ‘Spending Bill’ (as Obama called it yesterday).

Thank you for listening.

Soon I'll get back to painting, so expect more updates as I get productive again.

Out of the Box

Forgive me for taking so long to reply to any comments. After selling my home the end of May, I've spent most of my time packing, moving and unpacking. This computer has only been back on-line a few days and I can't wait to get productive again.

The good news - my desk is now by a window and it's easier to get in a painterly mood :painter:
